Analysis of two types of materials commonly used in brushes

There are many kinds of brush materials, and the earliest use is natural wool. The so-called natural wool refers to materials such as bristles and wool that are directly collected and used instead of artificially synthesized. And many materials such as bristles, wool, horsehair, etc. have different properties, which should be selected according to the customer's use environment.


1. Natural wool


1. The bristles are taken from pigs. Generally speaking, a pig can only take hair once in its life. Bristles can be used to make a variety of brushes, the most common being bristle paint brushes. The bristles are similar to human hair, and are thick to thin from the root to the end, which makes the bristles elastic; in addition, the ends of each hair will be slightly forked; common bristle colors are brown (white) or black. The bristle has excellent durability and water resistance, as well as anti-static, high temperature and acid and alkali resistance. 2. Wool wool is relatively soft and slightly lacking in elasticity. After being made into a wool brush, it will not leave brush marks when used to paint. In addition to being made into paint brushes, wool is often used on short, soft brushes such as cosmetic brushes. 3. The softness of horse hair is between bristle and wool, and horsetail hair is slightly harder than bristle hair; horse hair has good toughness and wear resistance, but not acid and alkali, so it is mostly used for polishing. , cleaning, dust removal and other related industries; the brush made of horsehair can withstand high temperatures of about 190 degrees Celsius. 4. White brown white brown is a wool material processed from the fibers of agave stems and leaves. It is mainly produced in Mexico, so it is often called "Mexican white brown" in the industry; white brown has good acid and alkali resistance; because it is a plant The fiber has good water absorption; the white-brown can reach a temperature of about 140 degrees Celsius, which is suitable for making brushes for polishing and polishing the details of leather. In addition, there is sisal, which is also one of the natural materials used to process brushes. Sisal has similar properties to white and brown, and is also mostly used for polishing brushes. The finished product is commonly known as "sisal strips".

2. Man-made fibers


Nylon brush rayon, namely nylon (PA), PP, PBT, PET, PVC and other plastic filaments, these materials have the advantages of low production cost, various colors, stable quality, unlimited length, etc., in the current brush processing It is widely used in industrial brushes, and the use of these rayon yarns greatly exceeds that of natural wool. Among the above-mentioned man-made materials, nylon (PA) is the most used and the most classified. Nylon yarn is divided into the following types due to the difference in characteristics: Nylon 6 (PA6): Nylon 6 is the most expensive in the nylon family. Inexpensive, however, nylon 6 still has good recovery, temperature resistance and abrasion resistance. Therefore, the wool is widely used in various finished brushes, and is the most common wool on various brushes in the market. Nylon 66 (PA66): Compared with nylon 6, nylon 66 is slightly better in hardness, recovery and wear resistance at the same wire diameter, and the temperature resistance can reach 150 degrees Celsius. Nylon 612 (PA612): Nylon 612 is a relatively high-quality nylon yarn with low water absorption, better recovery and wear resistance than nylon 66. In addition, nylon 612 has anti-mildew and antibacterial properties, and its brush wheels and brush strips are often used in food, medical, and electronics-related industries. Abrasive nylon: Wear-resistant nylon is a synthetic filament made of nylon 6 or nylon 612 as the raw material for brushing with silicon carbide (SIC) or alumina (AO) abrasive particles. The finished brush has the characteristics of wear resistance, and there are many kinds according to the wire diameter and mesh number. The above are the common types of nylon, in addition, the following are other artificial filaments that are used in large quantities. PP: The biggest feature of PP is that the density is less than 1. When testing wool materials, several of them can be placed in water. If they float on the water surface, they can be preliminarily judged as PP materials; the cross-section of PP wool is oval; Poor, it is difficult to restore the original shape after repeated bending; heat-resistant to 120 degrees Celsius. PET: The durability and high temperature resistance of PET are close to those of nylon; in addition, PET also has good resistance to acid and alkali, alcohol, gasoline, benzene and most cleaning solvents, and has considerable antibacterial properties and is not easy to mildew. PBT: PBT wool has the advantages of acid and alkali resistance, oil resistance, solvent resistance, etc., but it is easy to hydrolyze at high temperature. PVC: PVC has low cost, short service life and poor wear resistance, so industrial brushes rarely use PVC as wool to avoid frequent brush replacement. PVC filaments can be made into front-end bifurcations, which are called "flowering filaments" in the industry, and are often used in household cleaning brushes such as brooms.
