Skoda releases 2030 strategy with multiple measures to reduce carbon footprin

Recently, we learned from the official that the series of measures formulated by Skoda based on the 2030 strategy have prompted the company to continuously move towards low carbonization. While accelerating the development of electric models, Skoda also focuses on sustainable production and the operation of the full life cycle of pure electric vehicles, including supply chain management. To achieve this, Škoda uses recyclable materials in the manufacture of its vehicles and continuously recycles the high-voltage batteries of electric vehicles.

● Sustainability is at the forefront of Skoda's 2030 strategy

Sustainability is one of the core elements of Skoda's 2030 strategy, which sets ambitious goals in terms of reducing its carbon footprint. Škoda’s investment in this area over the past year, as well as its comprehensive and transparent communication in the areas of environment, social affairs, corporate governance and finance, has helped the Volkswagen Group become the first company in the world to meet the EU Sustainable Finance Action Plan. ” and the “EU Sustainable Finance Taxonomy” reporting requirements for automotive companies.

● Expand electric vehicle business

Skoda will launch three pure electric models by 2026, with more to follow. Skoda plans to increase the share of pure electric vehicles in its European sales to more than 70 percent by 2030. At the same time, by continuing to expand its electric vehicle business, Škoda Auto will reduce carbon dioxide emissions from new cars sold by more than 50 percent compared to 2020.

● Low-carbon production

Škoda continues to increase the use of renewable energy in vehicle production, thereby significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the production process. By 2030, all three Skoda plants in the Czech Republic will be zero-emission, with the Vác Rabi plant already carbon neutral by 2020. In addition to using renewable energy, relevant initiatives include recycling waste, using materials and processes with high resource utilization, and promoting green logistics in an all-round way. In addition, Skoda and local energy companies are building a wind farm in the Moravice-Merci region in eastern Czechia.

● Recycling of sustainable materials and batteries

Škoda continues to increase the use of natural, recyclable and recyclable materials. For example, the production of the VISION 7S concept car uses recycled plastics in addition to metal and glass; the seat cover of the new electric model ENYAQ iV is also made of wool and recycled PET plastic bottle materials. At the same time, Skoda recycles high-voltage batteries from electric vehicles for energy storage systems at dealerships' fixed locations. The recycling of batteries effectively reduces the carbon dioxide footprint of the associated products.

● Climate neutral operation of electric vehicles

Skoda's sustainability strategy includes not only carbon-neutral production, but also the zero-emission operation of electric vehicles. The ŠKODA ENYAQ iV model is carbon neutral when it is delivered to customers. For those CO2 emissions that cannot be avoided in the current production process, Škoda makes up for it by purchasing certified carbon credits.

● Newly established Sustainability Committee

In November 2021, Skoda established a Sustainability Committee. The committee, composed of five internationally renowned experts, advises the company's management board on measures to promote Škoda's sustainable development. Škoda thus became one of the first Czech companies to set up a sustainability committee, leveraging the expertise of external experts.

● Distributor training and more sustainable development measures

Skoda is working with 3,200 dealers around the world to achieve greater sustainability goals. Offering bikes as scooters for customers who book service and maintenance appointments can reduce carbon footprints even in small steps. Other sustainable development measures include "green retail" in the dealer sector, more environmentally friendly "green products", and "green factories" dedicated to sustainable production.
